Canon has unveiled sales details for its imagePRESS series of production colour presses on the anniversary of its launch. Across EMEA, more than 900 devices from the imagePRESS C850 series have been installed. Combined with the imagePRESS C650 model, an extension of the imagePRESS C850 series launched in March 2017, the installed base in EMEA exceeds 1,650 units.

Since the launch of the imagePRESS C850 and C750 models in autumn 2016, feedback from commercial print service providers (PSPs) and in-house printing departments highlights the devices’ unique capabilities including auto-duplex banner printing, semi-automated page registration, the ability to print on a variety of different substrates and extended finishing capabilities – all of which are helping customers to explore new possibilities with digital print.

Developed in line with market demand for high quality colour output, excellent productivity and extended media flexibility, the imagePRESS C850 series is helping PSPs and in-house print rooms to increase operational efficiencies, enabling them to focus on other value-added activities and open up new business opportunities.

One of the customers is Solent Design Studio in Southampton, which installed the imagePRESS C750 and is driving new business as a result of the printer’s media versatility. Managing Director, Martin Reynolds, said: “The quality of the output from the imagePRESS, even on uncoated stocks, is very compelling for our customers. We can access new opportunities by taking on relatively small jobs for new clients and showcasing what we’re capable of. Our in-house design skills mean that we can offer customers creative suggestions for how to enhance their print, and the scope to work with such a broad range of substrates, gloss and matt finishes, including textured papers on the imagePRESS C750, enables us to bring these more ambitious concepts to life for clients at attractive costs.”

The duplex banner printing option for the imagePRESS C750 has also allowed Solent Design to expand into A4 landscape books, as well as producing smaller quantities of printed envelopes digitally. The new Canon equipment is driving sustained growth of the digital business, alongside its established litho print and design services.

Duncan Smith, Director of Industrial and Production Solutions at Canon UK, said: “Customers looking to drive business growth with digital production need robust and versatile solutions that help them to say ‘yes’ to a wider variety of customer briefs. The reaction from the market in the UK for the imagePRESS C850 series over the last 12 months has been extremely positive.

“The three presses are based on the same advanced technology as our flagship imagePRESS C10000VP production press and support our customers’ ambitions to extend their application capabilities. Our range of supporting software options from intuitive drivers to full end-to-end workflow solutions also help to boost their operational efficiency. Customer feedback in the UK highlights that these products are already making a significant difference, helping them to evolve their businesses in line with changing customer needs. It’s great to see that technology innovation can play such an important role in inspiring businesses to realise new opportunities.”
