Canon Europe, world leader in imaging solutions, is proud to announce that Andi Druk, a Dutch commercial printing company specialising in the production of magazines, books, manuals and brochures, has invested in a complete new workflow system from Canon and Müller Martini. The new system will comprise an Océ ColorStream 3900 continuous feed inkjet press fully integrated with a line of Müller Martini finishing modules, including a Sigma-line for book production, a Presto II Digital saddle stitcher for magazine production, a Vareo perfect binder and a Granit three-edge trimmer. The system will be installed in the fourth quarter of this year.

Although Andi Druk has been a long-term customer of Canon for its cut-sheet toner presses - and is, in fact, also investing in an imagePRESS C10000VP and an imagePRESS C800 - this is the company’s first installation of a digital inkjet production press and the first time that a ColorStream press has been integrated with a Muller Martini Sigma-line.

Offering greater flexibility than the company’s existing offset presses, the speed of the ColorStream, which is linked to the Müller Martini Sigma-line via the Type 1 Universal interface, is controlled by the Müller Martini Connex software to ensure that the full workflow operates as seamlessly and efficiently as possible to deliver maximum productivity. Customers will now be able to use variable data in a single production run, eliminate stockpiling and storage costs as well as the need for multilingual manuals. The result is clearly a win-win situation.

The installation of the digital production line is a strategic move by Andi Druk to transform its infrastructure in response to changing customer demands. With customers wanting an increased number of shorter runs and greater versioning, which has actually resulted in a rise in print volumes overall for the company.

Frits Keulen, director of Andi Druk, comments: “At Andi, we like to take an approach based on customer demand. What are the customer’s requirements and how can we meet them? This is also how we started our search for strategic partners for this project. The combination of the CS 3900 and the Müller Martini Sigma-line not only allows us to deliver personalised print in a quick and “lean” manner, but this innovative digital web-fed inkjet production line also makes us unique in the Netherlands and abroad since this type of configuration cannot be found anywhere else in Western Europe. And we’re proud of that.”

Canon’s Senior Director for Commercial Printers & Production CRD, Peter Wolff comments: “We have a long history of working closely with our customers to truly understand not just their businesses, but the growing and changing needs of their own customers. It is a partnership approach that we take great pride in and it allows us to recommend individual solutions tailored to the specific needs of a business.

“Andi Druk, as a forward thinking organisation, has recognised the growing opportunity that digital inkjet presents and in combination with the most suitable finishing capabilities of our partner, Müller Martini, can now take advantage of an efficient system that delivers flexibility without compromising on quality or speed.”
