Toyo Ink Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Toyo Ink Group, today announced that it was chosen as the preferred global supplier of UV sheetfed offset inks to KBA-Sheetfed Solutions AG & Co. KG, a business unit of the Koenig & Bauer Group of Germany. The FLASH DRY™ series from Toyo Ink —the standard FLASH DRY™ Karton series, the energy-conserving FLASH DRY™ HS series and the FLASH DRY™ LED series— will be the recommended UV inks for KBA-Sheetfed’s UV presses. These three inks will continue to be available exclusively from the Toyo Ink Group’s dealer network.

This supply tie-up follows a series of extensive technical and technological tests of Toyo FLASH DRY UV inks on all KBA Rapida sheetfed offset press series from half to large format. The test results showed that out of all the UV curing systems, Toyo’s UV inks worked best to optimize performance of high-end Rapida sheetfed offset presses from KBA. This achievement also led to Toyo Ink being named a “KBA recommended printing material” under the KBA Press Consum range of consumables.

“We’re delighted that KBA-Sheetfed selected Toyo Ink to support them in providing to their customers the substantial productivity, environmental and cost benefits that Toyo FLASH DRY inks have to offer,” noted Kensuke Koga, division director of Toyo Ink’s high-performance material sales. “Toyo Ink and KBA-Sheetfed share the common ambition of pushing the boundaries of UV technology in ways that create immediate value to customers. Together, we will focus on improving print quality and delivering the best possible inks for KBA-Sheetfed presses.”

Even today many Rapida users bank on the UV and LED-UV production inks from Toyo Ink with great success. KBA therefore recommends Toyo FLASH DRY inks especially for the innovative LED-UV process. All UV presses in the KBA-Sheetfed customer and training centre will print with Toyo FLASH DRY inks in the future. This is also true of the LED-UV presses exhibited on the KBA Group’s stand (#C47-1/2 in Hall 16) at drupa 2016. Toyo personnel will also be on-hand at the stand to answer any questions from visitors or identity possible solutions on how to boost printing productivity with a Toyo-KBA solution.

Dirk Winkler, head of print technology at KBA-Sheetfed, is convinced that the collaboration with Toyo as ‘the preferred partner’ when it comes to developing and optimizing UV curing systems unlocks huge potential: “Continual optimization and quality controls through the daily use in our customer and training centres lead to a constant, high quality at our joint users.”

Under this partnership, both firms will promote the advantages of LED-UV offset technology for users and increase its market acceptance and implementation. Toyo Ink is also committed to developing innovative products such as specialty printing inks for ultra-high speed LED-UV presses, building on its commitment to continuously create new value for its customers.
