Excellent colour accuracy and stability for the pressroom
Konica Minolta is the world's first printing system manufacturer to receive FOGRA53 profile certification. The award was given to the AccurioJet KM-1 digital UV inkjet B2+ sheetfed press after an extensive testing program. The certification proves that the system meets the strict requirements of ISO 12647-8 (FograCert Validation Printing System [VPS] certification) even in the new characterization FOGRA53. The KM-1 also passed the test for other worldwide ICC profiles. This is an important criterion, especially for internationally operating print shops.

FOGRA53 is a CMYK exchange color space and is used for color communication for print production. It supplements the previous 52 production color spaces, each of which represents a specific print output process. The certification proves the excellent stability, versatility and colour fidelity of the AccurioJet KM-1.
"The Fogra53 certification once again proves the excellent color management of the AccurioJet KM-1," explains Mirko Pelzer, Product Manager Industrial Printing Cluster West at Konica Minolta. "The KM-1's large color space ensures that any CMYK ICC profile can be achieved, including the FOGRA53 wide gamut profile. A conventional four-color offset printing system cannot "map" this color space.
The AccurioJet KM-1 prints up to 3,000 B2+ sheets per hour on one side with a resolution of up to 1,200 dpi. The system supports the conversion of short-run offset to digital printing and creates the possibility of hybrid printing solutions in which the AccurioJet KM-1 is integrated into existing offset processes. In addition to duplex printing, the system is capable of processing larger sheet formats and producing on uncoated and coated paper, natural and fine paper, structured media and plastic materials, even at higher grammages.
Users of the AccurioJet KM-1 benefit from Konica Minolta's Dot Freeze Technology. It solves one of the fundamental challenges of inkjet printing: the unwanted flow of ink droplets, which reduces print quality and the selection of possible substrates. A rapid change in temperature transforms high-fluidity inks from a printhead nozzle into a low-fluidity, difficult-to-movement drop. Dot-Freeze technology eliminates effects such as color staining and allows printing on all of the above materials.
"Taking a medium run, the KM-1's LED UV-curable ink guarantees color stability during production with remarkable accuracy," continues Pelzer.
The AccurioJet KM-1 has been certified for the ICC profiles FOGRA39, 47, 51, 52, 53, Japan Color as well as GRACoL Coated and Uncoated. This shows that the KM-1, as a global printing system, delivers high color accuracy and consistency regardless of where the print is produced.
Dr. Marco Mattuschka, prepress expert at Fogra, explains: "In addition to FOGRA53, the AccurioJet KM-1 has also successfully passed another check: a 'combined certification' which establishes FograCert VPS as a testing system for the printing of individual sheets through to testing the print stability of an entire run according to the Fogra standard PSD (ProcessStandard Digital). According to the available references for printing conditions, we were able to prove that the AccurioJet KM-1 meets all requirements for two further certification standards: GRACoL Coated and Uncoated (IDEAlliance) and Japan Color (Japan Printing Machinery Association). The system is thus equipped for a broad spectrum of international print jobs. The testing and certification of three internationally established de facto printing standards in a single pass was a premiere for Fogra and will expand FograCert's established testing system in the future".
