French document printing specialist Corus will be the first print service provider in the world to install an Océ ColorStream 6500 Chroma, Canon’s recently launched continuous feed inkjet press, featuring the new Chromera inks.

Corus will receive two Océ ColorStream 6500 Chroma lines before the end of this month, one for each of its production sites in Paris and Annecy. The hardware investment will be supported by upgrades to the company’s Océ PRISMAProduction workflow, as well as further investments in pre and post processing.

The company specialises in personalised direct mail, folding/inserting, archiving and optimisation of direct communications. Printed applications produced at Corus include transactional documentation such as invoices, bank and insurance statements, payslips and transactional direct mail, while the company also manages electronic mailings on behalf of many of its 350+ customers. Corus employs over 110 people to manage 24-hour operations six days a week across three sites in Lyon, Paris and Annecy, achieving sales of over Euro 14 million for 2015.

Corus has been a user of Siemens and, later, Océ continuous feed printing systems since its foundation in the early 90s, and became the first printer in the world to install the Océ ColorStream 3500 in 2011. The exceptionally high productivity, reliability and print quality of the ColorStream 3500 has been a key factor in the decision to invest in the latest Océ ColorStream model, with Corus reporting over 99 per cent uptime from the existing press.

Visiting a customer event at Canon’s site in Poing, Germany, was a key trigger for Corus’s decision. During this event, they were extremely impressed with the quality achievable on the ColorStream 6500 Chroma, thanks to the extended colour gamut and optical density of the new Chromera ink set. They also had the possibility to run a test job during the event and witnessed the outstanding quality of the output. This was reinforced by Corus’s very positive experience of Canon’s service and support over the 22-year relationship, and their confidence in Canon’s commitment to continued innovation and development of its inkjet technologies.

Peter Wolff, Canon’s Senior Director, Commercial Printers & Production CRD comments: “This new order from Corus marks the 1000th installation in the world of a high-speed continuous inkjet system from Canon, demonstrating our depth of engagement with print service providers in the high-volume production space. Today, Canon can claim the largest installed base of inkjet systems in the market.”

“This landmark order from Corus demonstrates the importance of Canon’s commitment to inspiring customers to implement innovative technologies to transform their business and realise their potential. Our long-standing partnership, and Corus’s positive experience with ColorStream, have given the management team confidence in the new generation of Canon continuous inkjet technology. What’s more, they know how far we will support them to maximise the positive impact of this latest investment on Corus and its customers.”
