Creating new inkjet printing markets through open innovation
Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724, "Epson") is opening a new collaborative inkjet laboratory at its Fujimi Plant in Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Called the Fujimi Inkjet Innovation Lab, the facility will begin operations in October. Epson will use the Fujimi Inkjet Innovation Lab to conduct joint research with a wide range of research institutes and companies that are looking to apply inkjet technology in industrial processes. Epson will develop new applications and unearth needs for inkjet technology, create new markets for inkjet printing, and accelerate the use of its inkjet printheads in industry.

Belgian company leverages print quality for business growth
Toray Graphics in the Czech Republic, a leading manufacturer of waterless offset plate technology, today reported that Belgian printing company Coldset Printing Partners has converted most of its operations to waterless offset printing using Toray IMPRIMA printing plates and Koenig & Bauer Cortina printing presses. The company, which serves its parent newspaper publisher as well as external customers that require heatset quality offset printing, was formed in 2010 as a joint venture to consolidate two printing plants.
