The Focus-Money brand "Deutschland Test" and the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI) awarded companies with a total score of more than 60 points - Steinbeis is one of the industrial companies with the best social value score.

Steinbeis Papier is one of Germany's most valuable companies. The medium-sized company from Glückstadt in Schleswig-Holstein was awarded the seal "Germany's most valuable company" by Deutschland Test, a Focus-Money brand. In the category "paper, office and stationery manufacturers" Steinbeis Papier achieved a score of 79.1 and is thus in second place after benchmark company Faber-Castell Aktiengesellschaft.
The "Social Value" criteria of the study
In cooperation with the Hamburg Institute of International Economics (HWWI), Deutschland Test evaluated and analysed the social value of 511 retail, industrial and service companies for the second time. The "Social Value" describes the ecological, economic and social responsibility of companies. Since 2017, large listed companies with more than 500 employees have been subject to the EU CSR reporting obligation (Corporate Social Responsibility), according to which they must comment on their commitment in areas of social responsibility. Germany Test and HWWI conduct the study on the basis of these sustainability reports or information on the areas of social and environmental commitment. The companies will only be able to make comparisons on the basis of these, as there are no uniform guidelines yet for sustainability reports as such. In the area of "ecological responsibility", CO2 emissions, energy intensity, recycling and control of the supply chain are evaluated according to ecological aspects. In the category "economic responsibility" it is innovation, economic performance and corporate governance, in the area "social responsibility" it is gender pay gap, health protection and product safety. This year, the sustainability reports have been newly included in the assessment in terms of their timeliness and scope.
Sustainability, the Steinbeis business model
A remarkable development of the present time is that people demand a demonstrable social added value from the economy. Companies are expected to participate in social challenges. Steinbeis Papier welcomes this development as it took place within the company as early as the 1970s. At that time, Steinbeis Papier initiated the "ecological" turnaround and built its
production site to one of the most modern ecologically integrated recycling paper mills in Europe. In this plant, the company produces around 300,000 tons of copy, magazine and digital printing paper per year from 100 percent recovered paper. With its ecological savings effects in CO2 emissions, water and energy consumption as well as the protection of natural resources (wood), it is still an industry leader today.
