Canon Europe, world leader in imaging solutions, is partnering with German media handling specialists BDT Print Media GmbH to develop an integrated solution enabling users of Canon’s flagship imagePRESS C10000VP and C8000VP production colour presses to produce banner format applications at high volumes.

By integrating BDT’s VX-Series feeder with the high speed imagePRESS production engines, Canon will be able to offer customers a high capacity solution for banner feeding. This will extend the range of applications that can be produced on the press, such as dust jackets for books, 6-page A4 folders, A4R landscape brochures, calendars, posters and so on.

The integration of the Canon imagePRESS C10000VP with the BDT VX-Series feeder will be demonstrated for the first time in the Publishing zone of the Canon stand at drupa 2016 (Hall 8a, Stand B50), where it will be producing a range of banner applications including book covers.

The BDT VX-Series banner feeder can handle stacks up to 500mm and works with media from 60 to 350gsm, and paper lengths up to 762mm. The feeder incorporates BDT’s patented Tornado ‘whirlwind’ technology for media separation, lift and transport, ensuring sensitive and reliable handling of a full range of media, including coated and uncoated paper and board, textured substrates and synthetics. Media feed parameters for repeat jobs can be stored in the device’s memory, enabling automatic setup to reduce job changeover times for optimum productivity.

Mark Lawn, Director Professional Print, Canon Europe says: “We have installed the imagePRESS C10000VP with over 120 PSPs across Europe since the product’s launch in Autumn 2015, and they’re already reaping the benefits of its exceptional output quality and high productivity. From discussions with customers, and our own observations of the market, we can see growing demand for applications requiring a longer sheet. On that basis we’ve looked for the right technology partner to help us address this future opportunity for our customers, and BDT’s proven expertise in this area made them the obvious choice. It’s a great example of how we monitor customers’ evolving needs and work proactively to devise intelligent solutions that will help them to access new revenue streams.”

Ralf Hipp, CEO of BDT Print Media says: “It is a great pleasure for us to work with Canon to integrate BDT’s Tornado technology based banner feeding solution with the imagePRESS C10000VP and C8000VP presses. Together, we can offer an excellent response to customers’ requirement for flexibility, productivity and output quality across a wider range of media and formats.”
